EXT. Street NIGHT.
A police car races along with light flashing.

Int. Loft/Grandfather's House. Night.
In the darkness an old b&w movie flickers. A man is tied to the line and a
train is rushing towards him. Billy is laughing.

ext. fLATS.Night
Kerr pulls up. Mrs. Lynes is waiting on pavement. She jumps in and they speed

off.EXT. STREET. NIGHT
Old couple in dressing gowns are talking to police.

OLD MAN
(to police)
He's still in there as far as we know.

One of them looks in through the letter box and then goes down the alley at
the side of the house while the other scribbles in a notebook.

OLD WOMAN
We heard a noise at the back. called you right away.

OLD MAN
We could hear him through the wall

OLD WOMAN
going round the rooms. Old Mr. Lynes hardly in his grave and they're breaking
into his house.

INT. LOFT/GRANDFATHER’S HOUSE. Night.
BILLY is sitting on a stool by the controls/ He is wearing his grandfathers
railway jacket and peaked cap. He has a whistle on a ribbon around his neck
lit by the a super 8 projector which throws images on the wall. Several
trains are running around the elaborate model landscape which mimics the
world that we can see from (and including) the flats. The light is glowing in
the model church on the hill.

POLICEMAN (V/O calling up)
This is the police. We know you are up there. Come down now.

Billy leaps up and rushes towards window. The trains rush towards one
another. The signal is on red. His foot catches on a wire as police man’s
head appears at trapdoor. The track sparks, lights flicker the trains
collide. The light in the model church goes out.

EXT. yard/GRANDFATHER'S HOUSE. NIGHT.
The policeman looking down from window sees Billy leaping down from shed and
racing out gate into alley.

INT.CAR.night
KERR & MRS. LYNES are driving up street towards parked police car as Billy
rushes out of an alley and straight into their path. C/U Mrs. Lynes
screaming. Breaks screeching.

EXT. GARDEN. NIGHT.
A white sheet tight over Billy’s face. He pulls its aside. his face is
sweating, panic in the eyes. He is in a garden peering through a line of wa
shing.

BILLY
Petrol smell God’s eye click click train train
A police siren in the distance and the sound of feet running.

EXT. WASTEGROUND/RAILWAY TRACKS. NIGHT.
Billy racing across waste ground towards a high fence with railway yards
beyond. He scrambles up and over the fence.
The police car speeds across waste ground, siren blaring.
Kerr and Mrs. Lynes running towards the fence.
Billy leaping over the tracks.

MRS. LYNES (C/u)
(screaming) Billy!

Billy getting down on his hands and knees at the edge of the track lays his
head on the line.

From high up on the fence Kerr sees a train coming

KERR
(desperate)
Billy! Billy!
